Tuesday's sub-varsity baseball games rescheduled for Wednesday
All baseball sub-varsity games scheduled at Manvel on Tuesday, March 9 have been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 10 at Manvel. The sophomore team plays at 4:30 p.m. and the junior varsity team plays at 7 p.m.
Texas Public Schools Week observed March 8-12
Today's students in Texas public schools hold the promise of being tomorrow's leaders. The Texas City Independent School District provides a solid foundation to ensure children's future success through a quality education.

All Texas City citizens are encouraged to reaffirm their commitment to public schools during Texas Public Schools Week March 8-12, 2010, by taking the time to visit their child's campus and find ways to contribute and help our children become the leaders of tomorrow.

Blocker UIL Team wins 12 medals and 2 trophies at academic competition
There were 21 Blocker Middle School students that competed in the UIL Academic Meet in February. Of the 21, 12 placed in the top eight to receive medals and two students placed third to receive trophies. Points were awarded to the Blocker team if students placed in the top six spots.

Welding & Drafting students advance to State competition
The Texas City High School Welding and Drafting programs had an exceptional year at their District Skills USA Competition last weekend.

Two student welding projects, a barbecue pit by Richard Goodson and Kyle Darden and a barbecue smoker by Heston Renken and Kyle Smith, both received superior ratings and will advance to state this March. Their welding teacher is Shawn Trader. In addition, Freddy Sanabria competed individually and he won 1st Place over all for his skills in welding. He will be the only individual representing skills USA District 9 at the State Welding Skills Competition this March.

Three architectural drafting projects of three different house designs that consisted of a 3 dimensional model and a set of architectural drawings were all given a superior ratings and will all advance to state in March. The students that created these projects are Michael O'Brien, Johnny Copado, Amanda Martinez, Julio Ramirez, Jason Brehmer, Dante Weaver, Manuel Martinez, Jose Castelan, Kendal Richardson and Andrew Zubia. Their drafting teacher is Lindsay Owens.

One group received Best of Show for their architectural drafting project for having the highest score in the drafting competition. That group is Michael O'Brien, Johnny Copado and Amanda Martinez.

TCHS Band students earn Superior ratings
Thirty-three members of the Texas City Sting Band recently participated in the Region 17 Solo and Ensemble Contest. Superior Ratings were awarded to 16 of our students at this contest earning each of them a medal for their outstanding performance. Congratulations these outstanding students: Joey Alvarado, Casen Askew, Chase Cronkwright, Allie Devasier, Jonathan Engle, Tahni Fish, Audrey Kelley, Kelly Lee, Evan Martinez, Kevin McEachern, Breanna Menard, Leo Romero, Xavier Salazar, Brooklyn Vance, Chase Vinson and Chris Welch. Very special congratulations to Xavier Salazar for winning two medals at this contest.
HOSA students going to state for first time ever
HOSA students headed to State competition for first time ever
Texas City High School's Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) recently attended the 2010 Spring Area 6 competition in Deer Park. Students in the HOSA Bowl competition won 2nd Place, which advanced them to the State competition which will be held in Houston on April 15th. The students will be competing against six other areas of HOSA organizations in the state competition. Their advisors are Jackie Thompson and Diane Block.
The students competing on the state level are senior Kayla Stelly, junior Jeffery TenEyck and junior Jamie Brown. Good luck HOSA students!
TCHS freshman receives Naval Award for excellence in science research
TCHS freshman Connor Clark recently competed in the Galveston County Science Fair where she won 2nd Place in the Zoology Division and won 5th Place in the entire 9th Grade Division. She also received one of three very special Naval Science Awards for Science Excellence in Research presented by two Naval officers. She also placed 5th in the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo FFA Agricultural Science Fair with this same project. Connor's science teacher is Melanie Featherly and her Ag/FFA teachers are Nikki Ashcraft and Steven Tatsch. Congratulations!
Stingarettes earn multiple awards at dance competition
The Stingarettes competed at the Crowd Pleasers South Houston Showcase on Saturday and received Division I ratings on the two team routines they entered, the three officer routines and the four solos. Division 1 is the highest rating.

The officers received a Super Sweepstakes Award for receiving a 90 or higher on all three of their routines. The Stingarettes received a Silver Sweepstakes for scoring a 90 or higher on the two routines they entered. The officers also received a Best in Class award for their Jazz routine and their Novelty routine. The Stingarettes are under the direction of Sherri Simmons and Kristen Davis.
Spring Break is March 15-19
Texas City ISD's Spring Break is March 15-19, 2010. All schools and offices will be closed during that time. Classes resume on their normal schedule on Monday, March 22nd.
Air Force Band to perform in TCISD
Texas City ISD has the honor of hosting a special performance by the U.S. Air Force Band on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Since its formation in 1941, The United States Air Force Band has brought superb music and exciting entertainment to music lovers around the globe, earning its reputation as "America's International Musical Ambassadors."
The event is free, but everyone must have a ticket. If you are interested in attending, please contact Priscilla Apolinar at 409-916-0118 for your free ticket.
Fry Singing Stings excel at Pre-UIL competition
The 5th grade Levi Fry Singing Stings received a Superior First Division rating for "Stage Performance" and a Superior First Division rating for "Sight Reading" at the recent Pre-UIL competition. The students will receive a trophy for winning Sweepstakes. The Fry Choir Director is Matthew Raines.

The 6th grade Singing Stings received a Superior First Division rating for "Stage Performance" and Second Division rating of Excellence in "Sight Reading" at the same competition. The students will receive a plaque.

The annual football banquet was recently held to honor athletes, support staff and coaches for the 2009 football season. The special award winners for the Stings from this past season were:

TCHS video tech students produce Census 2010 video
The Texas City High School Video Tech class has been working on a project to promote the 2010 Census. They produced two videos - one in English and one in Spanish - to be broadcast locally. The Census Bureau has expressed an interest in the videos and they have presented the possibility to broadcast them in a larger market. The video tech class, which is in its first year, came about after teacher Daryl Hanus began a video club a couple of years ago. He was awarded grants from the TCISD Foundation for the Future to purchase equipment.
