The Superintendent of Schools is the Chief Executive Officer of the district, responsible for administering the policies of the school district, hiring all personnel and providing the administrative leadership for the operation of schools.
Cynthia Lusignolo, Ed.D. joined Texas City ISD as the 15th Superintendent of Schools on June 6, 2012. She is the first female superintendent in TCISD.
Dr. Lusignolo previously served as superintendent in Liberty ISD. Her 20-year education career also includes serving as a civilian instructor for the US Air Force, elementary teacher, middle school and high school math teacher, middle school assistant principal, personnel director, assistant superintendent and superintendent.
Dr. Lusignolo has a strong curriculum and leadership background and is an effective communicator. She has extensive experience with gifted and talented education, diverse student populations, instructional and behavioral strategies, building and maintaining effective superintendent-board relations, budgeting and personnel management.
Dr. Lusignolo graduated from Midwestern State University (MSU) in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies – Mathematics and received her Master of Education in School Administration from MSU in 1996. She received her Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Lamar University in 2010.
She is the recipient of multiple professional awards, scholastic awards and Air Force civilian awards. She is active in the communities where she has lived through church, Kiwanis, Lions Club, United Way and Rotary Club. Dr. Lusignolo and her husband, Dave, have four adult children and two grandchildren.
The superintendent is appointed by the Board of Trustees as the chief executive officer to administer the operation of the schools. With the assistance of her staff, the superintendent directs, guides, and coordinates the total educational program in accordance with Board policies and the rules and regulations of the Texas Education Agency. She attends all Board meetings and brings recommendations to the board for action in carrying out business of the school system.
