H1N1
Many people have had a lot of questions regarding the new strain of flu called H1N1.  The H1N1 webpage has a listing of Frequently Asked Questions.

TCISD Immunization Requirements
The immunizations required are: diphtheria, rubella (measles), rubella (German measles), mumps, tetanus, pertussis, poliomyelitis, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and varicella (chicken pox). The school nurse can provide information on age-appropriate doses or on an acceptable physician-validated history of illness required by the Department of State Health Services. Proof of immunization may be established by personal records from a licensed physician or public health clinic with a signature or rubber-stamp validation.

Effective March 5, 2009, vaccination requirements have changed for school-age children. All students entering 7th grade are required to have: Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis Booster), Meningitis and 2nd Varicella (Chickenpox). All children entering Kindergarten are required to have: 2nd MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), 2nd Varicella (only for students who have not had the Chickenpox) and Hepatitis A, dose 1 and 2. These are in addition to the existing requirements listed above.

If a student should not be immunized for medical reasons, the student or parent must present a certificate signed by a U.S. licensed physician stating that, in the doctor’s opinion, the immunization required poses a significant risk to the health and well-being of the student or member of the student’s family or household. This certificate must be renewed yearly unless the physician specifies a life-long condition.
