About

Our vision is "Together We Succeed!"

The mission of Texas City ISD is to prepare our students to reach
their full potential and excel in their chosen paths.

Texas City ISD has 14 schools and nearly 8,000 students in 78.31 square miles of La Marque and Texas City. As the State of Texas continues to raise the standards of education, we are proud that our students and teachers in Texas City ISD are working hard to meet and exceed those standards.

Texas City ISD stands at the forefront of innovation in education with a range of pioneering programs. It boasts the only high school Fire Academy in the Houston-area, providing students with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in firefighting and emergency services. Additionally, Texas City ISD is home to the sole Early College High School Program in Galveston County, empowering students to earn college credits beginning their freshman year while still attending high school.

The district also leads the way with the only Maritime Program in Galveston County, offering specialized training for careers in the maritime industry. Moreover, the Two-Way Dual Language Program fosters bilingualism and cultural understanding, preparing students for success in our globalized world. Through these distinctive initiatives, Texas City ISD exemplifies a commitment to innovative education, equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in an ever-evolving society.

The History of Texas City ISD

From the 1870s onward, children in our Texas City community received instruction wherever space was available, taught by a shifting cast of educators. In December 1904 the first Board of Trustees was elected, and by January 1905 the Texas City Independent School District was officially formed.

Our first dedicated building, Central School, opened on 3rd Avenue for grades 1–8. As the town and its schools grew - with Kohfeldt Elementary and Wolvin School opening in 1912 and many others to follow - the district evolved with the community.

A pivotal moment came on July 1, 2016, when TCISD absorbed the La Marque Independent School District, welcoming new students, campuses and traditions into one united district, moving forward together with renewed purpose and vision.

What's next for TCISD?

Much of the Texas City Independent School District’s success is due to the fact that Texas City ISD recognizes the need for a cooperative effort among educators, students, parents and the community.  Time and again, such a shared commitment has made a difference in the lives of Texas City students. Voters approved the passage of a $158.6 million bond referendum in November 2022.

The bond program includes two new replacement schools for La Marque High School and Calvin Vincent Early Childhood. The bond also includes renovations for fine arts and career and technical labs at Texas City High School. In addition, the bond includes district-wide initiatives: new STEM/Robotics Center, new Agriculture Bond and safety and security. Projects also include a new stadium for La Marque High School and renovations to the stadium at Texas City High School.
