COACH MASON GETS 500TH WIN
Texas City High School head boy's basketball coach, Chris Mason earned his 500th win of his coaching career with a 56-54
victory over Clear Brook High School on Friday, November 11. The victory was earned on a buzzer beating shot by Clovis
McCain that gave Mason the victory. Coach Mason is a graduate of Lamesa High School and played at Angelo State
University and his 500 wins came at LaPorte High School and at Texas City High School. He has had his teams in the
playoffs 19 of his 25 years in coaching. CONGRATULATIONS COACH MASON!!!

TC Cross Country Runner Advances to Regionals
The Texas City boy's and girl's cross country recently competed in the District 18-5A cross country meet at Freedom
Field Complex in Iowa Colony hosted by Alvin ISD. Amisadai Yanez qualified for the Sting's boy's team with a time of
17;40 in the 5,000 meter run. He will now advance to the regional competition put on by Sam Houston State University
in Huntsville on Tuesday, October 25th.

ADVANCES TO THE UIL STATE TOURNAMENT
Texas City High School junior, Emma Iles has qualified for the Texas Class 5A UIL State Golf Championship Tournament
on Tuesday, April 18 while shooting a 76 on the course and a two-day total of 155. The Regional Tournament was played
at the Margaretville Lake Resort in Conroe. She will now compete for the Texas State Championship to be played at the
White Wing Golf Course in Goergetown on May 15 and 16th. Congratulations to Emma and her coaches, Mark Cooper and
J.J. Wyatt.

TC AQUASTINGS COMPETE IN UIL REGIONAL MEET
The TCHS swim team competed successfully at the UIL Region VI Championship meet on Friday, Feb. 3 and Saturday, Feb. 4.
All of the TC swimmers/relays qualified on Friday to swim in the finals on Saturday evening with personal best times across the board. Swimmers Leana Williams, Jordy Zuniga, Callie Dupree and Avery Demers set a new school record in the girl's 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 2:07.10, dropping a record that has stood since 2010. Congrats to the TC Aquastings!

TC AQUASTINGS COMPETE IN DIVING TOURNAMENT
On Friday, November 11th, the TCHS Diving Team competed at the 2022 Pasadena Invitational Diving Competition at
the Shippey Aquatic Center in Pasadena. Divers Leana Williams, Callie Dupree, Bryson Hey, Ricky Soliz,
and Koby Ethridge placed 4th overall as a team.
At the first ever TCISD competitor in 3-meter diving, Callie Dupree earned a third-place medal.
Bryson Hey placed second in the 1-meter diving competition.

Texas City High School senior, Kohen Munson recently signed to continue his education and play tennis for
Bethany College in Lindsberg, Kansas. Congratulations go to Kohen as he goes to Kansas and plays for the Swedes.

TC Freshmen Play In District 18-5A Tournament
On Wednesday, April 5th, the TC freshmen tennis competed in the District 18-5A Tournament at Angleton High School
courts, and brought home a couple of medals. Walter Brandon & Nathan Fuentes took second place in district in boy's
doubles. Jeremy Calvert took second place in district for boy's singles. The team also had several others who took 4th
place in boy's singles, 4th in girl's doubles and 4th in mixed doubles.

The TC freshman tennis team competed in the Alief Tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 22, and even though the
day started out rough, the team brought home the most medals that they have ever won. In A Boy's Doubles,
Logan Pedraza and Lincoln Pena won first place. They beat Elsik 8-6, Fort Bend Marshall 8-0 and beat Shadow
Creek 8-6 for first place.
In B Boy's Doubles, Nathan Fuentes and Walter Brandon won 2nd place. They beat Cy-Lakes 8-2, Alief Taylor 8-4
and lost to Shadow Creek 3-8 in the finals.
In A Boy's Singles, Andrew Hipp won 2nd place. He beat Cy-Woods 8-2, Fort Bend Travis 8-2 and lost to Shadow
Creek 0-8 in the finals. In B Boy's Singles, Jeremy Calvert won third place beating Cy-Springs 8-0, lost to Elsik
Team 2, 3-8 and beat Elsik team 1 in the 3rd place match.

The TC freshman tennis team competed in the Goose Creek ISD Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 21 and brought home
2nd place. Nathan Fuentes & Walter Brandon took second place in B Boy's Doubles. They defeated Baytown Lee
8-1, Stafford 8-0, Clear Falls 8-5. They fell short to Pearland Dawson 4-8 in the finals.
Logan Pedraza and Lincoln Pena lost in the consolation finals to Goose Creek Memorial 4-8. They lost their first match
to Atascocita 4-8 and then came back to beat Kingwood Park 8-1, Clear Brook 8-3 and made it to the finals losing to
Goose Creek Memorial.

The TC JV Tennis team competed in the Angleton Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 14th and did very well in the meet
despite the rain delays.
Andrew Hill won 2nd place in A boy's singles. Nathan Sifuentes and Brielle Brinkley won consolation in A mixed
doubles bringing home their first medal of the season. Landyn Simmons and Alex Rodriguez won 1st place in B
mixed doubles, also bringing home their first medal of the season.
Nathan Fuentes and Walter Brandon lost in the B boy's doubles final.

On Thursday, February 9th, the Texas City Stings Freshmen & JV tennis teams hosted their 2nd annual
Junior Beachcomber Tennis Tournament. This year the number of teams increased from 9 in 2022 to
19 teams and from 3 locations to 6 locations. With great weather and great competition it was a very
competitive tournament. Out of 19 teams, the TC freshman boys played in events with 15 other entries and
ended up playing each other for 1st and 2nd place in both freshman boys singles and freshman boys doubles
for the championships. Andrew Hipp took on Jeremy Calvert in the freshman boys singles and won 1st place,
with Jeremy finishing in 2nd place. In boys doubles, Logan Pedraza and Lincoln Pena took on Nathan Fuentes
and Walter Brandon in the championship match of freshman boys doubles. Logan and Lincoln won the match
taking 1st place with Andrew and Walter taking 2nd place. The mixed doubles team of Landyn Simmons and
Alex Rodriguez lost in the semifinals and it was the first time for them to play together in a tournament.

The TC Stings varsity tennis team competed in the Brazosport Invitational tournament and Kohen Munson and
Hope Walker won first place in the Mixed Doubles bracket beating Alief Elsik 8-6. The match was their fifth match
of the day starting play at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m.
Also finishing in the Brazosport Tourney were Kolby Radzieski-Kane and Miguel Jaramillo beat Stafford and
Columbia, but fell in the quarterfinals to Bellville 2-8 in boy's doubles.
Lily Melchor and Kaclynn Hawkins won their first match 8-0 and then faced Bellville in their second match. They
fell short, but won their next match that sent them to the semifinals in girl's doubles. They fell short to Lamar
Consolidated 2-8.

On Wednesday, Jan. 25, the TC freshmen tennis team competed in the Aldine MacArthur tournament. Nathan
Fuentes and Walter Brandon beat Katy in the finals of their bracket in boy's doubles 8-1 to win first place.

The Texas City Stings freshmen attended their first spring tournament at Barbers Hill High School. They learned a lot and
had fun! Congratulations to Nathan Fuentes and Walter Brandon for defeating Baytown Lee in the boy's doubles bracket
8-3 in the championship match to win first place. Andrew Hipp got second place in the consolation bracket in boy's singles.

STINGS SHINE AT AREA TRACK MEET
The Texas City Stings and Lady Stings track teams competed in the UIL Area track meet at Eagle Stadium at Barbers
Hill High School on Wednesday, April 19. Several athletes qualified for the regional track meet to be held at Turner
Stadium in Humble on Friday and Saturday, April 28 & 29. The boy's track team won the team championship at
the area meet.

The Texas City High School boys and girls track teams participated in the 18-5A district meet this week at Wildcat
Stadium in Angleton. The Stings and Lady Stings had an outstanding showing at the meet. Congrats to the
athletes and coaches. They will next participate in the Area track meet at Eagle Stadium at Barbers Hill on
Wednesday, 19.

TEXAS CITY STINGS TRACKSTER - KENYON PARKER
SIGNS WITH ARKANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY
Texas City Stingaree senior, Kenyon Parker signed his national letter of intent to run track for Arkansas State University
in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Parker was a state finalist his sophomore year in track in the hurdles and his junior year he won
district and area in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. He finished 3rd at the regional meet in Huntsville. He was also an
All-American runner on the Mainland Jaguars Club Track Team. Kenyon also played receiver and kick returner for the
Texas City Stings playoff qualifying football team in 2021 & 2022 seasons. Congratulations to Kenyon!!

LADY STINGS VOLLEYBALLER MAKES ALL-COUNTY TEAM
Senior setter, Jayla Diaz-Medina was named to the Honorable Mention All-County volleyball team for the 2022 season.
Jayla has been a four year player for the Lady Stings and was part of the team that helped Texas City qualify for the
district play-in games for the playoffs this past season. Congratulations Jayla!!!

The Texas City Lady Stings held their annual youth volleyball camp the last week of July and had great participation

TEXAS CITY LADY STINGS CARWASH FUNDRAISER HIGHLIGHTS
The Texas City Lady Stings Volleyball teams held a fundraising car wash on Saturday, Aug. 13 to
raise money for their program. Below are some of the pictures from their fundraiser. Thanks to
everyone that brought their car by to be washed and several that just came and dropped off
donations to the program.
