Blocker Singing Stings Choir

Welcome to the Blocker Middle School Choral Department, home of the Singing Stings! We are excited to welcome our award-winning students to a safe and enjoyable environment in which all students can grow as musicians and singers. Our students will focus on music reading and performance, as well as an emphasis on teamwork and working together to reach a common goal. The self-discipline and self-esteem inspired by this environment will help students to succeed both in and out of the classroom.

Students will be taught the basics of musical sight-reading, as well as correct singing and performance technique. We will cover a variety of musical literature spanning different time periods, cultures, and genres and will demonstrate musical knowledge and growth through performance and competition.

Our choral department is made up of four performing choirs. All gentlemen are placed in Cambiare, while the ladies are split between the Bella Voce and Nova Canto ensembles. Students in these three ensembles also have the opportunity to audition for the Soundwaves, our Show Choir. A new Solo and Ensemble class is also available to choir students who would like to use the additional time to prepare for Region Auditions and Solo and Ensemble Competition. This class also provides opportunities for additional explanation of musical fundamentals.

The Blocker Choir program is directed by Rachel Smith. Before coming to Blocker MS, Mrs. Smith taught elementary music in Clear Creek ISD and then directed the choir program at Levi Fry Intermediate. She graduated with her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Southwestern University.
