The Blocker Dance Department

In Dance students will learn the basics fundamentals of Dance and Kinesiology. The students will be introduced to a variety of Dance genres including Ballet, Jazz, Modern, and Musical Theatre. They will demonstrate their dance knowledge through performance in and out of the classroom. Students will also learn the anatomy of the body to better understand how the body works. They will become familiar with proper stretching and conditioning exercises which will provide a safe classroom environment and create lifelong habits for a healthy lifestyle. In addition, students will also develop individual responsibility, as well as commitment to others, enhanced self-discipline, and greater self-esteem. It is the hope that all dancers will leave this department with a love for themselves, a healthy future, and a respect for the arts.

Director

Amy Klesel is a 1998 graduate of Texas City High School. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from Sam Houston State University. After graduation, she began teaching History at Blocker Middle School in 2001. In 2009 she was fortunate enough create the Dance Program and Dance Team for Blocker Middle School where she continues to share her love for dance and all of the fine arts.
