Curbside meals will continue on Mondays

Today Governor Greg Abbott issued an executive order that declared schools shall remain temporarily closed to in-person classroom attendance and shall not recommence before May 4, 2020.

Texas City ISD plans to reassess the situation the week of April 27th and will make a decision on the date to return at that time unless the Governor extends his executive order.

Interim Superintendent Susan Myers said, "Texas City ISD is committed to work closely with local and state leaders to monitor stay-home directives. In the meantime, we will continue to offer nutrition services to our students and we are working on an additional three weeks of curriculum to get us through to the beginning of May."

Curbside meal pickups will continue each Monday from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. at both La Marque High School and Texas City High School. Each student in the car will receive 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches for the week.

"We know that many people are disappointed that we cannot return to school in April as we had once hoped," said Myers. "The main thing right now is that our school families stay safe. While we realize these at-home assignments do not have the same impact as regular classroom instruction, we are working hard to create valuable learning opportunities for the added weeks. We will keep connecting with our students, parents and staff and encouraging everyone to stay hopeful. We appreciate everyone doing their best to facilitate remote learning."

Parents should monitor their email, the district's website and social media accounts for announcements regarding the next launching of PreK-5 curriculum. Students in grades 6-12 will continue to have online assignments.

"I know all of this is especially hard for our seniors who are worried about senior activities like prom and graduation," said Myers. "When we get the nod to convene again, we will make every effort to help our high schools host these events, even if they are not on the original date."

We must work together to battle COVID-19

Though we are apart right now for our health and safety, we at Texas City ISD continue to support each other as a community, and right now we must work together to fight COVID-19. In order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, Texas City ISD will be reaching out to you over the next two weeks to share vitally important guidance.

This guidance is based on what scientists know about how to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and it is our hope that you will continue doing all you can to follow these practices and share them with your friends and family.

Thank you for what you are doing to educate your children at home and all the efforts you're making to keep your family healthy and safe. We know this is a difficult time. If we stand apart as a community during this stretch and continue following the public health practices we will be sharing over the coming days, we will be back together soon.
