A Leaders of Impact participant helps serve lunch alongside a Nutrition Services staff member at Texas City High School.

Texas City ISD’s Leaders of Impact group got a firsthand look at what it takes to feed students each day during their latest session, hosted by the district’s Nutrition Services Department.

The group visited Texas City High School, where Nutrition Services Director Hosana Medbery led participants on a tour of the campus kitchen and cafeteria operation. Participants learned more about the work that happens before students ever make their way through the lunch line, including how meals are prepared, organized and served each day.

The experience did not stop with the tour. Leaders of Impact participants put on hairnets and gloves and stepped behind the serving lines to help Nutrition Services staff serve lunch to TCHS students.

The hands-on session gave participants a closer look at an essential part of the school day and the employees who make it all possible.

From preparing meals behind the scenes to greeting students in the serving line, TCISD Nutrition Services staff work each day to ensure students have access to meals that help keep them fueled and ready to learn.

Through Leaders of Impact, community members have the opportunity to experience different areas of TCISD firsthand and gain a deeper understanding of the people, programs and operations that support students throughout the district.
